About Amchimovie
Independently run since 2018. Reading from Ireland.
Amchimovie is a small, independent streaming-discovery site. It exists to answer one specific question that no streamer wants to make easy: “Where can I actually watch this, in my country, right now?” We cover movies and web series across every major OTT platform — Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Max, JioHotstar, Apple TV+ and dozens more — and pair the raw availability data with editorial picks, ratings, cast, trailers and reader reviews.
A short history
Amchimovie launched in 2018 as a side project of a frustrated Indian streaming subscriber tired of bouncing between four apps to check if a title had finally landed. The site grew organically through search — at our peak we ranked on the first page of Google for several thousand movie and series queries across India. We paused operations for most of 2025 to rebuild from the ground up; what you're using now is the 2026 rewrite, with country detection for 40+ markets, faster pages, and a renewed editorial layer on top of the data.
How we source the data
The bulk of our catalogue data — titles, cast and crew, release dates, synopses, genres, runtimes — comes from The Movie Database (TMDB), an open community-maintained project we've worked with under a commercial arrangement since the relaunch. “Where to watch” availability for streaming, rental and purchase is sourced from provider feeds via TMDB's aggregation and refreshed continuously. Trailers come from YouTube via the official video endpoints. We do not host or stream copyrighted content — every “Watch on [provider]” link sends you directly to the streamer's own page.
Provider availability changes hour by hour: a title that's on Netflix India today may be on JioHotstar next month. We do our best to surface the freshest data we have and we date-stamp every detail page so you can see when the listing was last refreshed.
Where we add a human layer
Raw catalogue data is a commodity. What you read on Amchimovie that isn't the data itself — the “Our take” capsules on notable titles, the best-of lists, the weekly highlights, the FAQ summaries and the prose framing on detail pages — comes from our editorial desk. We don't auto-spin generic synopses across thousands of pages; if a title has a hand-written “Our take,” someone on the desk decided it was worth writing one, read it back, and stands behind it.
What makes us different from JustWatch and friends
- Country-first design. The URL is country-prefixed (
/in/,/us/,/gb/and so on) so we never quietly default to a US catalogue when you're elsewhere. - Editorial alongside data. Most discovery sites are pure aggregators. We pair the data with specific opinions on titles worth your time.
- Fast and quiet. No autoplay video, no popups, no autoplaying trailers, no aggressive interstitials.
- No account required. Your watchlist lives in your browser. We don't require sign-up to use the site or to write reviews.
- Reader reviews are real. Reviews are written by readers, with a moderation pass, and shown unedited.
Who runs the site
Amchimovie is a one-editor operation, supported by readers. The editorial desk is run by Amit G. (Founding Editor). You can read more about how we work on our Editorial Standards page.
