She studied acting at the Juilliard School in New York and first rose to prominence in 1999 as Tammi Littlenut on the Comedy Central series Strangers With Candy. Thayer garnered supporting roles in the comedy films Hitch, Accepted, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, as well as numerous television series, including Will & Grace, Nip/Tuck, 30 Rock, House, New Girl, Portlandia, Arrested Development, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the Adult Swim series Eagleheart and Robot Chicken.
