José Salvador Perez, better known as Tinoco (Botucatu, November 19, 1920 – São Paulo, May 4, 2012), was the country artist who remained in activity the longest (82 years). He died at age 91 of respiratory failure. He was laid to rest in the Quarta Parada cemetery, in the city of São Paulo and buried in the Vila Alpina cemetery, in the same city. Tonico & Tinoco was a Brazilian country duo, considered one of the most important duos in the history of Brazilian music. In their 64-year career, Tonico and Tinoco made almost 1,000 recordings, divided into 83 discs. The duo is one of the sales record holders in Brazil and, according to different sources, their total sales vary between 20 million and 50 million records.
